Well, Alpha 1 was disappointing, wasn't it?

I'm taking the plunge and apologising for how boring Cryptic Alpha 1 turned out to be.

In better news, Alpha 2 is nearing completion, and is a complete overhual, taking what was good
in pre-alpha 9, and trimming all the rubbish from alpha 1.

The most interesting change, is that the mod is now 3rd person, and you must evade mercs without any weapons. (So no, you don't get guns) It'll have a brand new story, and I'm really
sorry if you downloaded alpha 1.
Anyhow, here are some shots, the first is a WIP Build of alpha 2.
The second is a customised calendar texture I made in paintshop pro.

Alpha one released, but has major bug.

Well. Right after I uploaded alpha 1 of Cryptic, I discovered that the first ending doesn't work.
Anyway, at least it's online, and I'll have a patch released soon.

Cryptic Alpha 1 almost ready!

Well, Cryptic Alpha 1 should be online before the end of june, and I`m really hoping for a good response. I`m afraid I`ll have to use filefront this time, but in future i`ll use ambershee`s servers.

Complete workover for Cryptic

Well, I`ve been hard at work, so here are some screens.



This is a screenshot I`m using for the new menu background.












As you can see, the base camp has had some re-designing since pre alpha 9.

I`m taking a idea from stalker, in that there are now three groups on these islands. Workers, Mercs, and Soldiers (Might drop soldiers though.)

I`m working overtime to improve the story and all round polish on this mod.

I`ve gotten rid of the old main character, and hacked together a new one by modifying Krieger`s textures and replacing his head with doyls.

In another note, the anime music has been cut, but I`m still toying with the idea of some


anime-centric easter eggs or something.

Oh! and the mod is daylight again :)

Voice acting started.

I`ve just got my hands on a cheap mic\headset, and have been voicing all the characters in Cryptic.

On another note, just splashed out and bought "Stalker."

Shame is, I`m so busy trying to have alpha 1 (Cryptic) ready by June, I haven`t had time to play it properly. Still, I managed to glean some ideas for the mod.

I`m still working on alpha 1 of "Cryptic," (ETA June) and here`s some screenshots.

As you can see, I`ve changed the map to night, in an attempt to create a more scary atmosphere.I also took note of SkitZay`s comments, and altered the bridge, so people won`t go tumbling off the edge, amoung other things.
In other notes, I`ve removed the anime music, and rescripted most of the conversations. I`ve also changed the opening cutscene, so that you get dropped off by chopper.
With the map now set at night, I realised I can make the map design more focused, since players will naturally head for the lighted areas.
And thinking of cutscenes, I`ve been trying to imitate the"FPS Cutscene" feel, so that the camera will automatically look around ect, while you are speaking to important characters.
I`m slowly beginning to get the hang of the indoor-area system, so Alpha 1`s lighting should be much better than Pre-Alpha 9`s.
As for music, I`m trying to work out an area based system for "mood" music. (Ruins have creepy techno, ect.)
In closing, I hope that this mod will be something special, but it will some time before the mod is ready for "Prime Time." aka:Ver 1.0
